Our engineering and production departments were asked for a smooth infeed and outfeed of plastic film rolls to and from a slitter rewinder. Here, we had to consider the varying dimensions of the film rolls (diameter up to 840 mm, width up to 1,600 mm); not knowing the diameter downstream from the slitter rewinder; film rolls up to 900 kg; limited fitting height in a dust-free atmosphere and in an air-conditioned room. The presence of operators was also a point of concern.
At RDL Engineering we aimed for maximum customer satisfaction: Automatic control of the infeed and outfeed carts, RFID tags fitted in the support pallet containing information on the dimensions of the film rolls; and an assembly of scissor lifts fitted with an external electric spindle. A load cell integrated into the carts detects when the film roll is lifted. For reasons of occupational safety, we also installed safety light curtains and safety laser scanners. Cart passage is protected by a high-speed door in order to reduce contamination to a minimum.
